Default Taking Hope's Hanging Ward.

Taking Hope’s Guard.

1/ Find a line on the floor and place your right foot against it.

2/ Lift your left leg, rotate the foot to the left and place the heel directly behind the right heel.

3/ Step forward with your right foot straight up the line about 1 and ˝ paces.

4/ Your right knee should be bent leaving the weight on the ball of your right foot.

5/ Make a “thumbs up” sign with your right hand.

6/ Put the back of your right wrist in the middle of your forehead such that your forearm is horizontal. If you have done this correctly your right thumb should now be outside the line of your left eye pointing at the ground.

7/ Place the fingers of your left hand in the hollow of your right elbow.

8/ Keeping the forearm level rotate the right arm away from your head so that the right fist now points to the left side of your opponent (as you face him, not his left side.)

9/ Keeping the forearm level now **** your wrist so that your thumb points to your opponents advanced thigh.

10/ Have a friend walk around you and make adjustments as necessary to look like the illustrations given. Remember to keep the right arm level with the ground and to keep the forearm pointed at your opponent. This hides your arm from his attacks.

The thing I find with Hope's hanging guard is that unless you do it *just* right you leave your hand and forearm very exposed. So in step 10 your friend should adjust your guard so that it covers the hand and arm properly.

If you get it right though it is very nice indeed.

Cheers
Dave
